Ryan Reynolds is known for being one of the nicest guys in Hollywood, so a story that he treats some of his employees with love and respect comes as no surprise.
In November of 2020 Reynolds and fellow star Rob McElhenney of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia fame purchased football club Wrexham, who at that time were playing outwith the professional football league.
The pair have turned the club around and put them on the map around the world after taking over. Their takeover and the subsequent plight of Wrexham to finally make it back into the Football League was detailed in the documentary, Welcome to Wrexham.
One of the club's star players is centre-forward Paul Mullin, who dropped two divisions to play for Wrexham after a personal appeal over the phone from McElhenny.
From the documentary, it is clear that there is a camaraderie at the club, not just among the players and staff but the owners, too. In an interview with the PA news agency, he explained how Reynolds contacted him after his son was diagnosed with autism.
“My little lad was sick and Ryan came over to help, to try and make him better,” the striker said.
“That’s the type of people they are, really cool people. They care about the players, the families, the staff, and the club more importantly.
“It’s nice of them as owners to keep in touch with the lads and check on how they are getting on. It means you’re going to produce for them on the pitch if you’re happy off it.”
A trip to the UFC for Wrexham
Following a victory over Bromley, McElhenney sorted some ringside seats for UFC286 for his players, including Mullin.
“It’s something I’d wanted to do for years and we were sat close to the action,” Mullin recalled.
“It was good of Rob to do that and again shows what the owners are about. They’ve been unbelievable ever since coming in to get the community together and right behind the club. They provide back to the community and it shows because there’s a lot of happy faces about the place.
“It just makes you happy going to work and being around the people of the town.”
