Recently, reports have emerged online that Theo James is being lined up to play George Michael in a potential biopic about the pop superstar.
On Christmas Day in 2016, Michael sadly passed away, with his death attributed to dilated cardiomyopathy with myocarditis. Since his passing, there have been constant rumours about a potential biopic, though those rumours have gathered more pace recently.
James, who most recently starred in The White Lotus to critical acclaim, has been tipped to play George.
He even said recently he would embrace the opportunity, telling Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen:
"Oh yeah, I would love that. He's a lot of Greek, and I'm a lot of Greek,"
Michaels' birth name is Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou, while James' is Theodore Peter James Kinnaird Taptiklis.
A report from the Daily Mail stated that the biopic was going ahead with the blessing of Michael's family - but they have since denied this.
“To all of George’s Lovelies, fans and lovers of his music, a story has been published stating that George Michael’s family has endorsed a so called ‘biopic’ about his life,” a statement released on the musician's official website read.
“On behalf of George’s family and George Michael Entertainment we want to make it clear that there is no truth whatsoever in this story, we know nothing about this project and will not be endorsing it in any way.”
Adam Lambert slams potenial Theo James casting
Current rock star Adam Lambert of Queen was certainly not happy about the potential casting news, as he believes someone gay should be playing George Michael.
"Yay another straight man playing a gay icon," he wrote on Instagram.
