Nicolas Cage might yet return as Dracula for another movie despite the box office failure of Renfield.
The 2023 movie focused on the character of Renfield (Nicholas Hoult) from Bram Stoker's Dracula, who is the title character's devoted human servant.
It received mixed reviews from critics and was a major box office disappointment, grossing just $27 million worldwide from a budget of $65m.
Despite that, the movie's director has suggested that Dracula might appear again in another movie in the franchise despite the character's dismemberment at the conclusion of Renfield.
"Renfield's going to cement those bits with holy water and then spread them out presumably around the world. But inside each of those cells, Dracula is still alive, and may eventually come back together," Chris McKay told Empire.
McKay also suggested that we might see the most famous vampire hunter of all, Van Helsing, appear in a future instalment.
"There are choices that we made to suggest that there's a world of vampire hunters out there," he continued.
"It would not be a huge leap to suggest that Van Helsing would be out there."
Nicolas Cage's Dracula inspiration
It is no surprise to hear that Cage took inspiration from the most celebrated version of the character, played to perfection by Christopher Lee.
"Well, I had a lot of help. There were a ton of super-talented people on that movie that helped design the look," he told Collider.
"We wanted it to be more homage, more Christopher Lee. I favoured Christopher Lee as Dracula and I liked his kind of sixties hairdo, but the wardrobe, the costume, and no, I didn't come up with the idea for the rings.
"That all came out of a wardrobe. They came in with all that. Maybe they sent something in me that I would like that, but that was really their contribution.”
