Rachel McAdams has revealed why she was absent for the recent Mean Girls reunion.
The reunion in question saw former plastics, Amanda Seyfried, Lindsay Lohan and Lacey Chabert reunite in a commercial for Walmart.
McAdams wasn't keen on featuring in an advert - and didn't know her pals were returning until after it was filmed.
"I don't know; I guess I wasn't that excited about doing a commercial if I'm being totally honest," the actress told Variety.
"A movie sounded awesome, but I've never done commercials, and it just didn't feel like my bag. Also...I didn't know that everyone was doing it. I would, of course, always love to be part of a Mean Girls reunion and hang with my plastics, but yeah, I found that out later."
Mean Girls: The Musical
A new Mean Girls movie will be released in 2024 based on the musical, which is, in turn, based on the original 2004 movie.
Tina Fey wrote both and returns as her character Mrs. Norbury.
The official premise reads:
'New student Cady Heron gets welcomed into the top of the social food chain by an elite group of popular girls called the Plastics, ruled by the conniving queen bee Regina George. However, when Cady makes the major misstep of falling for Regina's ex-boyfriend, she soon finds herself caught in their crosshairs.'
McAdams, who played Regina George in the original, had discussions about a return with Fey but they couldn't make it work.
"Tina and I sort of dabbled with a few ideas, but it was tough to make it all work in the end," she explained.
"I was really down for whatever she wanted to do. I think the direction it went in will be fantastic and I cannot wait to see it."
