Margot Robbie has responded to herself and Greta Gerwig being snubbed for Oscar nominations in the Best Actress and Best Director category.
Barbie emerged as a phenomenon last summer and went on to gross an astonishing $1.44 billion at the box office. It is officially the most successful movie in history with a female director at the helm.
It received a hugely positive critical response too, which led to eight Academy Award nominations including Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor for Ryan Gosling and Best Supporting Actress for America Ferrera.
However, there were many movie fans left stunned when Robbie and Gerwig failed to be nominated for Best Actress and Best Director, though the latter did receive a nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay alongside Noah Baumbach.
When asked by Deadline how she felt about the snub, Robbie responded:
"There's no way to feel sad when you know you're this blessed.
"Obviously I think Greta should be nominated as a director, because what she did is a once-in-a-career, once-in-a-lifetime thing, what she pulled off, it really is. But it's been an incredible year for all the films.
"I just suspect it (Barbie) is bigger than us. It's bigger than this movie, it's bigger than our industry. I'm beyond ecstatic that we've got eight Academy Award nominations, it's so wild."
Robbie did gain an Academy Award nomination as a producer on the project via the Best Picture category.
