One of the most anticipated movies of 2024 is undoubtedly Joker: Folie a Deux.
A sequel to Joker became somewhat inevitable for Warner Bros. after the first movie made over $1 billion at the box office and became a critical darling, too, with Joaquin Phoenix winning the Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance as Arthur Fleck.
Joker certainly had its fair share of memorable musical moments, such as the infamous dance down the stairs to 'Rock & Roll Part 2' by Gary Glitter.
When Joker: Folie a Deux was announced, it was reported that it would come in the form of a musical, as Variety detailed that money is being thrown at "complicated musical sequences".
It was described as more like A Star Is Born than In the Heights.
However, cinematographer Lawrence Sher has now disputed those reports.
“It isn’t a musical per say, it just has music in it," he said, as reported by jokerfolienews.
“The music is part of the film & the characters but I don't know if it's a musical.”
Phoenix will return in the title role.
Lady Gaga will play Joker's love interest, Harley Quinn. In March of 2023, set photos were released as fans got their first view of the popstar in the movie.
In the comic books, Quinn is a psychologist who is eventually manipulated by Joker.
Quinn has already been played to huge success and acclaim by Margot Robbie in the DC extended universe, with the character having most recently appeared in The Suicide Squad. Gaga will play a different version of Harley.
In September, Brendan Gleeson joined the cast in an unspecified role, while Zazie Beetz was announced for a return.
