The first trailer has been released for True Detective: Night Country.
True Detective is an anthology crime series, first airing in 2014. The first series starred Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson and focused on the pair teaming up to investigate the murder of a prostitute over a period of 17 years.
The second series aired in 2015 and starred Rachel McAdams, Vince Vaughan, Colin Farrell and Taylor Kitsch, while the third series aired in 2019 and starred Mahershala Ali and Stephen Dorff.
It was created by Nic Pizzolatto who acted as the writer and showrunner. However, despite having previously written an outline for series four, Pizzolatto has since left True Detective after signing an exclusive deal with FX, away from HBO.
Jodie Foster will play the lead role of Detective Liz Danvers, with Kali Reis playing Detective Evangeline Navarro.
Historically an exclusive movie actress, Foster featured in television shows such as Taxi Driver, Gunsmoke and My Three Sons as a child.
According to Deadline, "the series is centred around Detectives Liz Danvers and Evangeline Navarro who are looking to solve the case of six men that operate the Tsalal Arctic Research Station vanishing without a trace, when the long winter night falls in Ennis, Alaska.
"The pair will have to confront the darkness they carry in themselves and dig into the haunted truths that lie buried under the eternal ice."
