James Gunn slams suggestion he shouldn't promote Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3

James Gunn has hit back at the suggestion that he should not promote his new movie, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3.

Last year, Gunn and Peter Safran were appointed in executive roles at Warner Bros. to oversee DC Studios, with a massive shake-up in the vision of the DCEU and other properties expected. The former will lead DC Studios from a creative standpoint, while Safran will focus on the business side of things.

The situation has put Gunn in an odd situation as he is still working closely with Marvel to promote his third Guardians movie, which he was already part of before the job at DC.

On Instagram, he posted a behind-the-scenes look at the film, and underneath, one user commented that DC should not be allowing him to promote their competition at Marvel.

"The worst business that DC could do was to hire someone who advertises the competition," the user wrote.

"Unbelievable, now can you imagine what their movies are going to be like??? I think it's a disaster."

Gunn took umbrage to that suggestion and insisted stepping away from marketing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 was never even considered.

"The last thing DC would want is someone who would spend the last 12 years of his life creating a series of films, and then turn his back on his last movie," he replied.

"I wasn't hired at DC without everyone on board being very clear and supportive up front and continuously through this process."

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Pom Klementieff, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper and Will Poulter and is set to be released on 5 May 2023.

What can we expect from Adam Warlock in Vol.3?

The primary antagonist of Vol.3 will be Adam Warlock, played by Poulter.

The appearance of Warlock was teased at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 when the villainous Ayesha said she had created a being named 'Adam' to defeat the Guardians. The entire reason for Warlock's existence within the movie is to destroy the Guardians of the Galaxy, but Gunn says things are more "complicated" than that.

“It’s kind of more complicated than that,” he tells Empire when asked about Warlock's intentions.

“But he’s definitely not a good guy. What we’re seeing is the infant form of Warlock, newly out of the cocoon, and he does not understand life very well. He’s basically a baby.”

Poulter allegedly beat off competition from Bridgerton's Rege-Jean Page and 1917's George MacKay to land the role of Warlock.
