How Prey is connected to a key scene from Predator

Prey will have a major connection to a key scene from the original Predator, according to the movie's director Dan Trachtenberg.

The original Predator, released in 1987, focused on a special forces unit led by Arnold Schwarzenegger who encounter an alien creature in the forests of South America.

One by one, the creature picks off the crew before the eventual showdown with Schwarzenegger.

Prey will act as a prequel to Predator, and the official synopsis reads:

"Set in the Comanche Nation 300 years ago during 1719, the film follows Naru, a fierce and highly skilled warrior, who has been raised in the shadow of some of the most legendary hunters who roam the Great Plains. So when danger threatens her camp, she sets out to protect her people. The prey she stalks, and ultimately confronts, turns out to be a highly evolved alien with a technologically advanced arsenal, resulting in a vicious and terrifying showdown between the two adversaries."

One of the characters from the original, Billy, had Comanche blood and was involved in one of the movie's most famous scenes as he stripped of his equipment to face the Predator head-on.

Trachtenberg says this role was a key inspiration for Prey.

"My friends went to see Predator and told me about the scene in which Billy fights the Predator on a bridge over a waterfall. But when I saw the movie, that wasn't in it, and I wanted to see that movie. Spiritually, Prey is connected to that moment," he told Time Out.

Trachtenberg then teased: "We'll find out if there's any further link".

Prey scarier than Predator?

Predator is one of the most famed action movies of all time, and although there are definitely elements of Sci-Fi and horror, it is known for its action.

It seems that Prey, though, will focus more on the horror aspect.

"I wanted to be scarier than we've seen it before," Trachtenberg continued.

"It's intelligent and it has advanced technology, and that makes it even more difficult to take on.

"But because the movie is set 300 years in the past, those things need to feel a little bit older than we've seen before, but also still far more advanced than what we think our earthlings would be able to handle."
