John Leguizamo insists he was effectively used as a "pawn" by Sony and Marvel for the studios to convince Michael Keaton to take the role of Vulture in Spider-Man: Homecoming.
The reebooted Spider-Man franchise started in 2017 with Homecoming, with Tom Holland stepping into the role of Peter Parker. Holland previously featured in Captain America: Civil War and that was the character's first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
For the first standalone movie for this version of Spider-Man, Vulture was selected to be the primary villain, and according to Leguizamo, he had the role in the bag before Keaton suddenly became keen to take it on.
"I was supposed to be the Vulture," he told ComicBook.com.
"We had negotiated and I was about to play him, and they said that Michael Keaton wanted it back and they asked me if I would give it up. I said, 'Well, okay I guess.' They said, 'No, we'll work with you again, we're gonna...' That's what happened there."
Leguizamo then commented further with a post on Instagram, saying: "It's true but I was used as a pawn to close Keaton but I should have said 'no' because we had agreed to terms.
"And I had a leg to sue but I ain't litigious."
Michael Keaton returns as Batman in The Flash
