'Families, friends and foes discover the lure of the Old West as the Civil War divides the country.'
It is intended to be Part One of a four-part series, with Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter Two already greenlit.
In 2022, Costner said the series is planned for "four different movies" that will be released "three or four months apart".
“They’re all different films that all connect, so you’re watching a saga of these storylines that are happening."
Horizon: An American Saga will focus on a number of different groups at the time of the Civil War, including the indigenous American Indians as well as Western Settlers.
The story takes place over a period of fifteen years in the period before and after the Civil War. Through the eyes of many, settlements are being established in the American West, where indigenous peoples are already present. The establishment of new communities is done with determination and is not without atrocities.
“It’s a really beautiful story; it’s a hard story,” Costner told Variety. “It really involves a lot of women, to be honest. There are a lot of men in it, too, but the women are really strong in ‘Horizon.’ It’s just them trying to get by every day in a world that was impossibly tough. They were often (dragged) out to these places because that’s where the men wanted to go; women were following their men. They didn’t ask to be in these territories that were unsettled and dangerous, and life wasn’t easy. I’ve chosen to make sure that was really obvious, that that wasn’t easy, and how vulnerable people were.”
The movie stars Costner, Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Jamie Campbell Bower, Luke Wilson, Thomas Haden Church, Jena Malone, Alejandro Edda, Tatanka Means, Danny Huston, Luke Wilson, Will Patton and Michael Rooker.
