Chandler was initially meant to CHEAT on Monica in Friends

One of television's favourite couples is Monica and Chandler on Friends, played to perfection by Matthew Perry and Courteney Cox.

Though the pair went through their ups and downs, including hiding their relationship from everyone and struggling to conceive a baby, they were always dedicated to one another.

However, it has recently been revealed that the writers put a storyline in place for Chandler to actually cheat on Monica while in Las Vegas.

In the Vegas episode, Chandler is upset that Monica had lunch with her ex, Richard, and failed to tell him. The initial script saw Chandler sleep with a hotel worker who brings him room service.

Lisa Cash, an actress who appeared in season five in the Vegas episode, was cast as the hotel worker and even rehearsed some scenes, but Perry eventually convinced the writers to take the storyline out of the script completely.

“I came in as a guest star and I was super excited,” Cash told TMZ

“The scene was Chandler and Monica were arguing in Vegas about having lunch with Richard. Initially in our script, Chandler goes up to the hotel room, orders room service and I bring it up as a hotel worker. We end up talking and laughing and connecting and Chandler ends up cheating on Monica with my character.

“We had rehearsed it and everything,” the actress continued. “The day before we were shooting in front of a live audience, I was told that Perry went to the writers and said the audience would never forgive for cheating on Monica. He was probably right! That would’ve changed possibly the course of the show and his character.”

Perry tragically died last week after drowning in a jacuzzi at his home in Los Angeles.

Tributes have been pouring in from his friends, family and former co-stars.
