Guillermo del Toro is putting together a fascinating cast for his upcoming adaptation of Frankenstein.
The movie will be based on the novel by Mary Shelley and will again tell the story of Victor Frankenstein, a young scientist who creates a creature in an unorthodox scientific experiment - using body parts of deceased humans.
There have been dozens of adaptations since the novel was published in 1818. The latest mainstream adaptation was Victor Frankenstein, released in 2015, though that proved to be a critical and commercial failure.
Frankenstein is a dream project for Del Toro, who revealed some of the names he will be working with in a conversation with Collider.
"I'm doing Frankenstein. We're working on it. We start shooting in February, and it's a movie I have been wanting to do for 50 years since I saw the first Frankenstein," the Mexican filmmaker revealed.
"I had an epiphany, and it’s basically a movie that required a lot of growth and a lot of tools that I couldn't have done 10 years ago. Now I'm brave or crazy enough or something, and we're gonna tackle it. It’s Oscar Isaac, Andrew Garfield, Christoph Waltz, Mia Goth, and we’re working on it."
It is believed that Garfield will play Victor Frankenstein, while Isaac will play Frankenstein's Monster.
Regular Del Toro collaborator Doug Jones was previously in line to play Frankenstein, but he might take on another role.
Del Toro is developing the project for Netflix, and it is unknown at this time if it will receive any kind of theatrical release in theaters.
