MovieMeter recently sat down with young actor Jacob Moran to discuss some aspects of his career so far, in particular his role in The Black Phone.
It was an extensive conversation with the talented performer, who talked of his love for music and playing guitar and drums, as highlighted by his role in the broadway version of School of Rock.
You can read part one of his interview here, where we focus on The Black Phone.
In part two, we look at some of his influences, and is clear he is a highly motivated and ambitious actor.
Q. What actors do you look up to, and who do you believe is the GOAT actor?
A. The greatest of all time? For me personally, when I get older, I want to set up like Adam Sandler and Mark Wahlberg. Like, how they have their own like, style of movies. Adam Sandler has his own production company, Happy Madison, and all of his movies are, like, Adam Sandler movies. Or Mark Wahlberg - ‘that’s a Mark Wahlberg movie'.
Sort of how they have their own style of acting. I really look up to them. I like the business side of acting too, like setting up a production company and producing my own films.
Behind-the-scenes stuff would be super-cool, as well as acting.
I really like, for child actors, I enjoy Outer Banks and Stranger Things. There are a lot of great horror films with kids too, not like the Black Phone when there’s a bunch of them, but a single kid.
Watching them get in that terrifying state of mind, it is really awesome to watch. After being in one, he or she (the actor) in the filming, watching the terror on their face.
A lot of horror films have great child actors.
Q. What is your favourite movie and television show?
A. Stranger Things and Outer Banks. I also loved Schitt’s Creek - I binged that show.
Q. What are you working on currently, and how do you deal with the balance of school?
A. My school, they have been super helpful. When I filmed The Black Phone in seventh grade, they sent work to the set, and helped me do my work.
In terms of new stuff, you can catch me in this new film, New Shoes, based on a true story, based on the life of a young rapper, Thommy Kane.
You go through his life, living as a young child at home. His mother was a drug addict and prostitute. You get to see his life story.
Thommy, who I was portraying in the film was actually the director with Bojan . Having him on-set really helped me to portray his role as I got to ask him like ‘how did it feel when this happened? How Can I be better at portraying your role?’
Q. Finally, what would be your dream acting role? It can be a part that has been played previously or one you would like to take on first.
A. A series regular on a Netflix show, would be a dream for me.
Being the only child actor on a big show on Netflix, would be super cool for me.
