Margot Robbie says that she and Barbie co-star Ryan Gosling were "mortified" when set photos were released showing the pair in neon pink spandex on rollerskates.
Not a lot is known about the plot of the upcoming Barbie movie, but it is said to be a children's romantic comedy and will be directed by Greta Gerwig.
Social media went into meltdown earlier this summer when set photos leaked, and Robbie has revealed that the pair were trying to hide their embarrassment when the pictures were taken.
“I can’t tell you how mortified we were, by the way,” the actress said on The Tonight Show.
“We look like we’re like laughing, having fun, but dying on the inside... Dying. I was like, this is the most humiliating moment of my life.
"So, I knew there would be a little bit of attention, and probably some photos would get out there, but not like it did. It was like mad. It was like hundreds of people watching all the time.”
Robbie has expressed surprise at how much "hype" the movie is generated, but she believes it is because Barbie is such a known commodity worldwide.
“I didn’t know it would have quite the hype it seems to have already,” she said.
“I remember when we were trying to set this up, I kept saying to these boards of people that this is the most recognizable word next to coca cola. Everyone knows Barbie. This will hit, so give us more money for our budget.”
Ken has no money and no home
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight in which he was promoting The Gray Man, Gosling was asked about getting in shape for that movie as well as Barbie.
He would reveal that Ken is at a bit of a low ebb in the Barbie movie.
“That Ken life is even harder than The Gray Man life, I think. He’s got no money, no job, no car, he’s got no house," Gosling revealed.
"He’s going through some stuff.”
Referencing the leaked set photos, Gosling promised there were more colourful moments to come...
“That’s nothing. I can’t wait for people to see the film. That's all I can say, otherwise Mattel will come in and box me up," he continued.
In addition to Robbie and Gosling, Barbie will star America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon, Will Ferrell, Simu Liu, and Michael Cera among others.
