'In 1880s Kansas, outlaw Harland Rust rescues his thirteen-year-old grandson Lucas, who has been sentenced to hang for murder after an accidental shooting. Now fugitives, the pair have to outrun U.S. Marshal Wood Helm and bounty hunter Fenton 'Preacher' Lang.'
Tragically, none of the media focus on Rust has been on the movie itself, but rather the production, as in October of 2021, cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was killed after Baldwin's prop gun was discharged during filming.
An extensive investigation was instigated by producers as well as the family of Hutchins, who filed a wrongful death lawsuit.
Now, a settlement has been reached between Hutchins' husband, Matthew, and the production, while he will also come on board as an executive producer.
"We have reached a settlement, subject to court approval, for our wrongful death case against the producers of Rust, including Alec Baldwin and Rust Movie Productions, LLC. As part of that settlement, our case will be dismissed," Matthew Hutchins said in a statement, as reported by Deadline.
"The filming of Rust, which I will now executive produce, will resume with all the original principal players on board in January 2023.
"I have no interest in engaging in recriminations or attribution of blame (to the producers or Mr. Baldwin). All of us believe Halyna's death was a terrible accident. I am grateful that the producers and the entertainment community have come together to pay tribute to Halyna's final work."
Baldwin's attorney said the actor is "grateful to everyone who contributed to the resolution of this tragic and painful situation."
However, Baldwin has since been charged with involuntary manslaughter and could be jailed for up to 18 months if found guilty.
