However, there are still some major, highly-anticipated movies that will be released this year, including The Crow.

Directed by Alex Proyas and starring Brandon Lee, the original told the story of a young musician who is resurrected to take revenge on the gang who murdered him and his fiance.

The production of the original was overshadowed by the tragic death of Lee, who was fatally wounded by a prop gun during filming. The actor had finished most of his scenes before his death, and so the movie was completely using script rewrites, digital effects and stunt doubles.

It spawned a franchise that included the movies The Crow: City of Angels, The Crow: Salvation and The Crow: Wicked Prayer as well as the television series The Crow: Stairway to Heaven.

In 2022, an announcement confirmed that the series would receive a reboot.

What is the plot of The Crow?

It is a remake of the 1994 movie, which had the premise:

'Eric Draven and his fiancee are brutally murdered. When he mysteriously returns from the dead with the help of a crow, it begins to guide him to his killers.'

The Crow is an anti-Marvel movie

The Crow has elements of the superhero genre, but producer Sam Pressman, whose father produced the original, has described it as anti-Marvel.

“The Crow has been a very central and integral part of our company and I’m really proud of the progress and the work that has been done,” he told Deadline.

Eric and Shelly will be getting married on Halloween. The night before, Devil's Night, they are attacked by a gang in their home. Eric is shot and thrown out the window; Shelly is raped and later dies in hospital. A year later Eric reincarnates with spiritual guidance from a crow. He now possesses special powers. He is supposed to correct mistakes of the past: he must search for the members of the gang, kill them one by one, before finally finding eternal peace...

“I think the movie is just going to blow people away. Our partners want to approach it in a very 360 way, whether it be video games, an animated series or a universe, but it’s got this cosmic legacy that can expand beyond a singular story.

“We’re finally at a point where we can really explore those other avenues because it’s such a unique property in that it is not a studio film, it’s not a Marvel film – it’s kind of an anti-Marvel film. I have the highest hopes for that and I really love what Molly Hassell (producer) has done in pushing it up the hill and Rupert Sanders (director) is such a visionary.”
