Grappig, ik tel er precies twintig die ooit in mijn persoonlijke top 250 hebben gebivakkeerd. Of dat nog steeds doen. Rangorde (gebaseerd op de meest recente) voelt niet helemaal jofel, al 'klopt' de top 6 wel redelijk.

Volgens mij zijn in de jaren 50 de meeste meesterwerken gemaakt . Daarom vind ik het erg lastig om een top 10 of zelfs een top 20 samen te stellen . In 1 maand tijd werden in de jaren 50 veel meer meesterwerken gemaakt dan het totaal aantal meesterwerken afgelopen 20 jaar .

Ik mis hier vooral enkele Sovjet-meesterwerken zoals Ivan Groznyy ll (1958) , Poema o more (1958) en de films van Mark Donskoy : Dorogoy tsenoy (1957) en Mat (1956) .

Verder ben ik dol op de films van Mikio Naruse , Kenji Mizoguchi , Joseph L. Mankiewicz ( The Barefoot Contessa ) , Vincente Minnelli en vele anderen van de Golden Age of Hollywood .

Bovendien is er ook nog de Europese cinema en de meesterwerken van Max Ophüls , Roberto Rossellini , Jean Renoir etc. .

Zonder twijfel een van mijn favoriete cinema-decennia .

Opvallend. De afgelopen twintig jaar heb ik honderden meesterwerken gezien echter uit de jaren ''50 slechts eentje. Alleen al de afgelopen twee jaar:
