Gett plot

In Israel there is neither civil marriage nor civil divorce. Only rabbis can legitimately contract or dissolve a marriage. Courtroom drama about (the lack of) women's rights in Israel, where a woman can only divorce with her husband's consent. A judge and a rabbi are apparently allowed to dissolve the marriage, but not without the husband's consent, making them little more than a mediator, but then (in the case of the judge) a mediator who can impose penalties, which is the only means to increase pressure after a verdict when the husband does not cooperate.

With that foundation, this film presents an interesting scenario in which a man and a woman must strategically bicker with each other and with the help of their lawyers in court to achieve their conflicting goals. Bizarre that such scenes occur in a "modern" country like Israel. 3*, especially for the impressive performance of the female protagonist. Not a perfect film, but certainly worth a watch for those who like the story.

Till death do us part.

Interesting insight into the Jewish marriage and especially divorce tradition. Never knew it worked that way. Courtroom dramas are usually not my thing, but I watched this one with complete disbelief.

Actually nothing more than a courtroom drama, but it doesn't feel like one in that dingy room with 3 bearded fossils who seem more ignorant than wise. There is little legal (or religious) about the whole thing because of the total indecisiveness. If they don't know anymore...

The situation is dire and is so typical of the patriarchal system in many countries where women are subordinate. This is always under the guise of religious laws and customs. The problem is that the film comes across as somewhat monotonous and repetitive. There is no swing or climax. The initial situation does not change for 100 minutes: it does not get worse, but also not better. If you re-edit the film in time, you would not notice any difference. And that is not beneficial for the viewer.

Nevertheless an interesting fact. Reasonable acting all, but still a little too uninterestingly presented.
