Jack plot
Ten-year-old Jack has not been living in a children's home for long. It is summer and he is looking forward to the holidays. However, after the last day of school, his mother does not come to pick him up and Jack threatens to spend the entire holiday with the pedagogues in the children's home. Together with his six-year-old brother Manuel, he runs away to look for his mother.

The film opens with the peaceful image of the two sleeping children, but what follows is of a completely different nature.
Ten-year-old Jack, feeling energetic and independent, but still just a child, goes, along with his smaller brother, desperately looking for his mother, in a world of adults, faceless, indifferent and distant.
Lots of touching scenes, like when the mother's unworthiness slowly dawns on the boy and he comes to a strong decision.. Commendable camera work.
Strong acting performance by the boy, Ivo Pietzcker, who also plays the leading role in the newly released film "Nebel im August".

Partly because of the inadequate upbringing by his mother Sanna [Luise Heyer], partly because of the behavioral problems of little brother Manuel [George Arms], the life of Jack [Ivo Pietzcker] has hardly any stability. Child services try to keep the family apart with the best of intentions, but Jack does everything he can to reunite with Manuel and Sanna. Gloomy drama is not very surprising in terms of content, but benefits from beautiful acting by Pietzcker who, under Berger's direction, cleverly uses every form of physical expression to express his thoughts and emotions. Feature debut by Berger, who directed the award-winning All Quiet On The Western Front in 2022.
