The ingredients for an exciting thriller are present. Mystery, riddles and a scary caller. And it starts quite nicely too. There is a solid build-up that seems to lead to an intelligent cat-and-mouse game. But unfortunately things go wrong after the build-up.

The film is not exciting. The film is too predictable for that. No cliché is left untouched.

Moreover, to all the predictability a mountain of coincidences and impossibilities are added. That mountain is very annoying and is the death knell for the story.

The acting is anything but subtle. Just like the use of music.

Directing duo Amariah and Obin Olson shoot out of the starting blocks to put as much momentum into Unknown Caller as possible, but create too little tension to maintain it. Moreover, after a while the film descends into far too much drama and with characters who are not very interesting, this is not a wise choice. There was also a clear puzzle to be mixed within the content, but without any background there is little for the viewer to actively think about or solve. Fortunately, the acting is commendable and the first half is entertaining, but afterwards you will most likely shrug your shoulders and completely forget about it after a week.
