Doro no Kawa plot
"Growing up... the innocence of youth lost to the realities of friendship, death, sex and injustice."
The boy Nobuo lives with his parents on a muddy river who have a restaurant there. While the newspapers are optimistic about Japan's economic growth that the post-war period is coming to an end, his father is still haunted by memories of his time fighting in Manchuria. One day a houseboat moors across the street with a prostitute and her two children. Nobuo befriends the two children who are soon welcomed by his parents.
