Sex Tape plot

"A movie about a movie they don't want you to see."

When Jay (Jason Segel) and Annie (Cameron Diaz) first got together, their relationship was intense, but ten years and two children later, the flame of their love is all but extinguished. By making a sex tape where they use every position from 'The Joy of Sex', they try to breathe new life into their relationship. It seems like a great idea, until they discover that their video is no longer "private" and they have to do everything they can to get it back into their own hands.

Awesome movie. We've lost track of recognizability here. As far as I'm concerned, movies don't always have to be rocket science. Just looking stupid can also be very nice. And this film is perfect for that. Nice silly humor that doesn't cross a faint line as far as I'm concerned. At the most you could say that it is indeed against it at Rob Lowe's house, but that's all. That's fine. And indeed, Diaz is still nice to look at, what do you expect here, a real 'sex tape'? Then you step into the story with some wrong expectations and I can imagine disappointment well.

What an absurdly low average, and to be honest, I wasn't expecting much either (that title alone). But look, sometimes it's not that bad. Of course this is not world cinema, where not everything is equally fun or funny (that thing with that dog) but it knows how to entertain.

In any case, all that beginning, in which the lives of Segel and Diaz are portrayed. It is made very clear in a few minutes and once they grab the camera, you also understand why they do that. Not that this is a psychological drama that's supposed to show that, but the movie does (and therefore better than 70% of the movies that try really hard). Furthermore, a nice soundtrack, a good tempo and now and then a joke that really works. It's also nice that Segel and Diaz are really normal people with normal lives and some normal good friends. Even more normal than the lives in say Boyhood (a film that pretends to show just that).

Also nice that in a movie about sex there is at least nude. Okay, no nipples or cocks, but at least you have a naked ass in the picture, so you know that deep under the sheets the actors are not secretly still wearing their underwear. I think R-rated is a bit exaggerated, but it's nice that you as a viewer are taken seriously. Furthermore, I just couldn't really do anything with the literal expression of thoughts by the protagonists. It is implemented so consistently that it is more a consciously chosen style than ignorance, but it is in any case not mine.

Anyway, all in all a nice looking film. Not everything is equally good, because certainly the middle part is of lesser quality, but as a whole it is absolutely sufficient. 3.0*.

Bad.

As expected, Sex Tape is busy bullshit. For an hour and a half. It seems twice as long. Lots of yelling, hopping back and forth, words like 'fuck' etc. Laughing? Bwa, maybe once or twice.

Cameron Diaz is here at her usual, not really high level; Jason Segel isn't doing too well considering where it comes from. Once the fun comedy Sarah Marshall, now this.

Rob Lowe and Rob Corddry are lost here - however names/heads that can cause some hilarity as supporting roles in mediocre comedies.

To avoid.
