I let this one go (too) long, because the last Bigfoot film I had seen, Exists (2014), was a huge disappointment to me. But I have to say that this one was much more credible and exciting than the last one. Willow Creek shows very little, and mainly plays with the oppressive feeling of the big forest in which all kinds of things can take hold that we do not yet know exist.

I've never been a big fan of camping, and I definitely won't be doing it again after this movie!

Yes, it's short. And yes, the scene in the tent is actually a bit too long... but 10x better this than the worthless Exists.

3.5*

I know comedian Bobcat Goldthwait mainly as the weirdo Zed from the Police Academy films, you know, that guy with the weird breaking voice. He has been working as a director for many years now and here he even ventures into the found footage horror genre, and not without merit. The film mainly consists of not very interesting build-up, but in the finale it does get quite scary and uncomfortable. Who would have thought that, with Bigfoot as the subject. Makes a nice double bill with The Blair Witch Project.

Jim's dream is to stand near Willow Creek at the spot where a bigfoot was filmed in 1967. Accompanied by his girlfriend Kelly and armed with a video camera, he tries to make that dream come true. The travelogue produced by comedian and director Bobcat Goldthwait shows an enthusiastic Jim and Kelly whose enthusiasm wanes as the film progresses.

The ingredients are familiar. A restless camera, babbling protagonists, a few strange locals, a location far from civilization and a hasty and short finale. Between all the blurry and overexposed images, we actually see something that seems to be an attempt to give the main characters more face. There is a relationship thing going on that is admittedly not at all interesting, but I appreciate the attempt to offer something more than mindless babble and overwrought footage.

One scene stands out. A minute-long scene that takes place in Jim and Kelly's tent at night actually made me feel uneasy. Two people in a tent in the middle of an enormous forest. Deep silence alternating with shuffling, rustling and strange sounds. A strong scene and also the only strong scene. Willow Creek contains little or nothing that distinguishes itself from an average found footage production.
