Sketches of Myahk plot

During a research trip to the Miyakojima archipelago – some 300 kilometers southwest of Okinawa – musician Makoto Kutoba discovered the unique religious songs and dance rituals that the locals have passed down from generation to generation for centuries, even going back to shamanic times. Aided by the musician, filmmaker Onishi decided to forever capture the spiritual roots of ancient Japan in a document about a cultural heritage in danger of extinction. He also organized several performances in Tokyo. For many of the older islanders, some over 90 years old, it was their first visit to the capital.
