Annoying film where the interesting environments are not fully utilized. This is actually partly due to the stupid plot that is unbelievable and full of coincidences. You really can't sell this to your audience.

The acting is also dramatic. I didn't think Russell was nearly that bad in Thing of Escape from NY/LA, but here he really plays a worthless stoic role. Those 10 sentences that rolled out of this film were also not too high. How that colony also make a "soft" man out of him and also become friends is not at all possible. That little boy looked like a copy of him, by the way. Didn't get a word out...

It was especially the last half hour a hefty sit, which puts your patience to the test.

The film does have a nice appearance, which despite the cheap look does have its charms. The same goes for the interiors and the special effects.

1,5*

I had heard the rumors that Soldier would be set in the same universe as Blade Runner. I didn't pay attention, but I didn't notice anything that pointed it out. Soldier is really just a very entertaining nineties sci-fi action movie. The budget is still quite decent, but you don't really see it in it. The effects are variable. Sometimes (charmingly) fake, but certain shots, such as with that decommissioned aircraft carrier, are very impressive. Soldier tells the tragic story of the perfectly blunted soldier who is just brutally discarded in the long run. Always a good theme. Soldier is better put together than most people think, although it is not a high-quality film. There are some nice twists here and there, but the main role is really for Kurt Russell. He has a wonderful role here and he plays a beautiful character. At the end, the action enthusiast will be satisfied with scenes that come straight from the Rambo films. Cool action lick. I love seeing them like this!

Soldier doesn't start too strong and gets off to a slow start, but from the moment Todd is left on the garbage planet, it picks up speed. The second half mainly provides a nice viewer, in which there is more than enough to enjoy in terms of action scenes. Although Kurt Russell as Todd has little text, it is still a nice role from him.
