Laughing at blood fountains, limbs lying around and the ingenious use of stabbing weapons. Woodenly portrayed and the silly English is of course about nothing, but that's part of the charm. The kid's voice-over is a little guilty pleasure, while the stoic swordsman and his cart are actually unforgettable. The story is not fascinating, it remains to be seen how one after the other is poked towards eternal hunting grounds. Nice to see once, but that's about it.

I wanted to see this one because of Liquid Swords, but apart from that intro (which is a bit shorter and better on the album) and sometimes very nice music, it doesn't live up to expectations, which weren't high by the way. The way of acting, so static, as well as the boring camera work make this not really worth watching. The combat is also boringly edited. And you can see that people are thinking about how to film with the wide cinema format, that doesn't mean it looks nice. Then the idea may still be funny to walk through a country with a child and kill everyone you meet, as a film I never once enjoyed myself. 1.0*.

An American montage intended for the western circuit. Seemed pretty weird to me too. The action itself is raw western style with gory combat. Furthermore, a bone-thin story about a swordsman who wanders aimlessly with his son while he is attacked from all sides by enemies sent by his former master, the Shogun. What makes it American is mainly the over-present synth music. I can quite believe that the Japanese series is much better, since everything has been compressed into a viewer-unfriendly version of barely an hour and a half. Not bad because of the idiosyncratic style, but somehow this also seems to me to be a film that should never have been made.
