The Shanghai Gesture plot
"Mystery-lure of the Far East!"
Mother Gin Sling is the owner of one of the gambling dens in Shanghai. She is told that Sir Guy Charteris plans to close her gambling den. She decides to go to him for more information. Among the regular visitors of the gambling den there is a certain young Poppy Smith, who loses a lot of money on gambling and thereby sinks into alcoholism. But for Mother Gin Sling, her condition could mean a lot to the gambling den's survival.
