Monsieur Hire plot
The life of Monsieur Hire, who lives alone, is arranged down to the last detail. In order to come into contact with as few people as possible and to deviate from his daily routine, the eccentric man works at home. He never talks to other residents of his apartment complex and they find him very strange. The mysterious Alice lives opposite his apartment. Without her realizing it, Monsieur Hire spies on her every night. Then, near the apartments, a young woman is raped and murdered. The police suspect the silent Monsieur Hire. He declares that he is innocent. His neighbors also begin to suspect the strange, lonely man.

Special film with excellent staging, great dialogues, brilliant main actors and a story that contains the necessary twists and surprises to keep you interested.

Somewhat bland and too contrived.
It is mainly due to the beautiful playing of Blanc and Bonnaire that it can still be done, but afterwards it does not really feel like something to be proud of. I had hoped for a bit more venom from a French film from this period, a bit more ouff. Leconte tries to make something special out of it, but loses himself in the trick to such an extent that the characters no longer work, and his house of cards falls somewhat apart.
Not that that is necessarily a bad thing - after all, you have to try something now and then, otherwise everything will always remain the same. And it is certainly not a cliché work of French cinema.
