Les Beaux Jours plot

Caroline can finally retire. A new life lies ahead of her: time to take care of her children, her husband and above all, herself. However, she soon learns that this newfound freedom is synonymous with boredom and emptiness. Especially when she gets a senior club membership card as a birthday present. Reluctantly at first, she decides to go there anyway. And strangely enough, she meets wonderful people there, especially a young computer science teacher, who is not at all insensitive to her charms. Caroline will gradually regain control of her life and experience a second childhood.

A banal subject like this needs more depth than what is presented.

Therefore, a rather modest rating for this introduction to filmmaker Marion Vernoux.

Fanny Ardant, who has been in the business for about 40 years, fits the picture, but it is mainly Academy French actor Laurent Lafitte who puts class in his act.

In the middle part the film continues to drift a bit and similar scenes repeat themselves and the ending is surprising and actually meaningless.

More of a fine performance by Fanny Ardant than a film that I get the feeling the world was waiting for. Not so much because of the subject, but more because of the rather bland way in which it is developed. The ending is even more disappointing.

You can't get a French film much more French than this. A woman is retired and begins an affair with a man who is the same age as her children. A simple story that doesn't really go into depth. The acting is fine but does not rise much above average. And yet I enjoyed this film. Because he is so wonderfully French.
