There is much in this old version that is incorrect or has been left out, what has been done well is the part in Spain, the effort Columbus had to make to finally make his expedition possible, the opposition and political intrigues.
Where the film fails is not this part, or the journey itself, or the near mutiny on board, but the discovery itself; it seems as if the film would rather skip that part because it is sketchy to say the least.
Of course, it is rather shameful to know that Columbus committed atrocities on a large scale in his quest for gold in particular, and in this film that fact is completely omitted, which of course should come as no surprise.
But let's see this as a romanticized account and as such it is quite an entertaining film.
