Yurusarezaru Mono plot
The film is set in Hokkaido, around 1880, after the collapse of the Tokugawa shogunate that heralded the beginning of the Meiji period, in which the Japanese government attempts to modernize the country on a Western model. In the waning days of the shogunate, Jubei Kamata, a former shogunate swordsman, slaughters countless rebels on command, earning him a formidable reputation in Kyoto. After the fall of the government, he takes part in several bloody battles culminating in the battle of Goryokaku. Afterwards, he disappears without a trace and thus escapes the new government, which tries to catch him.
