Rauwer plot
Participating in a documentary can have serious consequences, as Tom and his mother Francis discovered. Rauwer starts with alternating fragments from predecessor Rauw (2008) and the much-watched program De Wereld turns on. In this, Francis, who is convinced that cooked food is unhealthy, is called an extremist and accused of child abuse. She has been raising Tom with raw food since he was five (dairy, fish, meat or eggs are also out of the question) and he is lagging behind in his growth. That's right, she says, because he no longer gets growth hormones from meat and dairy. When she then agrees to have Tom's health checked, the turnips are done. We see how mother and son are increasingly entangled in the nets of juvenile judges and the Youth Care Agency.
