Post Office Investigator plot
At an auction of rare stamps, the con man George Zelger and his accomplice Louis Reese are interested in some valuable stamps printed with the image of the Statue of Liberty. The auction begins and Zelger wins these stamps by bidding $100,000. He then goes to the desk of the auctioneer's assistant Clara Kelso, who actually works for him. She secretly gives Zelger the stamps. Louis mails these stamps with Zelger's New York address on the envelope and then returns to auction. Meanwhile, Clara has replaced the valuable stamps with forgeries.
