'The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman' follows Charlie Countryman (Shia LaBeouf), a normal man living an ordinary life, until he falls in love with the irresistible Gabi (Evan Rachel Wood). She proves irresistible to more people, because the completely deranged criminal Nigel (Mads Mikkelsen) also appears to be in love with her. Armed with no more than his wit and naive charm, Charlie undergoes one beating after another so as not to endanger Gabi. In the end, he finds himself in such trouble that there seems to be only one way to make sure Gabi is safe: Charlie Countryman must die.
