Promised Land plot
London lawyer George has come to South Africa to scatter his late mother's ashes on the Rietvlei, his uncle Pieter's farm where he spent part of his childhood. When he gets stranded with his car en route, the neighbors (miles of land away from his uncle's farm) offer him shelter. The hospitality of the eccentric family, who keeps coming up with new reasons to let George stay, becomes more and more oppressive. The longer he stays, the more intrigued he becomes by daughter Carla and her sensitive brother Paul. With their help, he slowly discovers the horrific truth surrounding Rietvlei.
