As far as I'm concerned one of the better ones in the 'creepy kids' genre.

Especially the way in which Makinov manages to maintain the mystery is commendable. For conclusive explanations you better go elsewhere, this film throws its trumps more on atmosphere. Beautifully exotic setting that, because of its desolation, has something enigmatic about it, enhanced by salvos of atmospheric ambient.

It doesn't want to get really scary or exciting, sometimes the atmosphere seems to erode a bit, but the final chord is worthy enough. As already said, quite remarkable, how the terrorizing kids are slaughtered in such an explicit way. You don't see that often, but you can.

Small 3.5 * anyway. Great movie, grossly underrated here. Just saw that it is apparently a remake, so that will explain one and the other.

Ignored for a long time because it was a remake of a cult classic that works so well because it was a crass, grimy film that you would not expect so quickly nowadays. Since it is a title that is now expiring on Netflix, I took the chance. Had expected a rather slick remake, where all the rough edges were shaved off. Nothing is less true! Makinov sticks almost eerily close to the original. Not only in terms of premise and literally the same scenes, but also in style (you rarely see editing as choppy and rude as here). Only the soundtrack lifts it into this century. The question then is whether it's an unnecessary remake... Well, no. Nothing is more fun than visiting that island again! And especially if it goes against expectations

A mediocre remake of ¿Quién Puede Matar a un Niño?. This is partly due to the lousy camera and acting. I seriously wonder if they had to cut back on the exposure during some scenes, because you can hardly see anything. The original version had all its shortcomings, but at least it still scored a pass. Especially since this one took the time to gradually build up the tension. This remake races through it like crazy, and manages to copy the original version almost literally within just an hour and a half. This can hardly go wrong.

2.0 *
