"Based on a true story."
In 1982, a young immigrant tries to survive in New York. Together with his childhood friend Eddie Argitakos (Liam Hemsworth), he decides to commit what is at that time the biggest heist in American history. They steal more than $15 million from a money truck of the company where he works as a security guard. However, a New York police detective (Dwayne Johnson) is on their tail.

A film that falls between fair and mediocre. I agree with Nathaniel177 about Johnson. This actor has a certain charisma about him that can be placed in other types of roles, but in this one it was misplaced. The rest of the cast performed well.
The film adaptation is sufficiently translated to the time ('82) where the story actually took place.
5.5 rounded to a 6/10.

Friendly. Empire State has an intriguing story and some fine actors, but it never gets interesting or exciting. Unfortunate casting choices (Liam Hemsworth is very mediocre. You have the Rock and you do this with it?), little tension and at times also simply boring.. The 80's atmosphere and the beautiful images are a plus, but it can be Empire State not save as a whole.
