The Children Who Fought Hitler plot
Their parents usually worked for the War Graves Commission and looked after the British cemeteries in Flanders Fields. They were well integrated, often marrying local girls and their children were raised multilingual. But both the parents and their children remained extremely proud of their British heritage. This British community was threatened even more than the local population by the German invasion in 1940. Many young people chose to serve their homeland. Their acts of resistance and espionage put them at risk of being arrested, tortured and killed. While their parents were often evacuated to the British countryside, they remained on the front lines.
