Not entirely successful film in which the improbable but true story is told of the survivor of a shipwreck in the sea off Iceland in 1984. The structure of the story is solid and the event itself is convincingly portrayed, but the aftermath is on the boring side. One and the other takes on somewhat absurd forms. Worth watching, but I did not really get involved in the events and the characters.

Nice Icelandic film about a local hero who defied the laws of nature by surviving for hours in the icy water and reaching the coast on his own. The film tells a little more than just the shipwreck. The rough, hard life of a fisherman also comes to the fore, as does the camaraderie with fellow fishermen. That typical attitude too: working hard when necessary, fooling around and drinking when possible.

The second part of the film was also strong, where he was literally lived. All those investigations and tests, the interviews (or interrogations, if you like), it was one big puppet show. He almost hoped he hadn't made it...

Also moving when he visits the relatives, consumed by feelings of guilt. Furthermore well filmed and a great casting. The hellish weather conditions and the wild Icelandic landscape are strongly reflected. Great survival film, nothing more, nothing less.

The limitations of framed scientific thinking are clearly evident in this otherwise human film, in which the will to survive, coupled with the qualities that Gulli, a beautifully subdued role played by Ólafsson, goes through life with, leads to him becoming a sight to behold, but his sobriety in this brings him to a turning point in his life.
