"Get ready to get naughty!"

In this sequel, the evil wizard Gargamel creates a pair of mischievous Smurf-like creatures, hoping to harness the magical powers of the Smurfs. But when he finds out that only a real Smurf can give him what he wants and only a secret spell Smurfette knows can turn the creatures into real Smurfs, Gargamel kidnaps Smurfette. He takes her to Paris where he is adored by millions as the world's greatest magician. Solid.

The animated smurfs on the screen. Part 2 even again. While I could secretly enjoy the somewhat unusual humor in part 1, I found this a bit less. Mainly because of the same approach to things and the somewhat fainter humor.

Gargamel is a nice villain. It's a bit exaggerated, but hey, it's a children's film after all. The animations are decent, the effects are decent too. The length could indeed be a bit shorter for a film like this one.

It's good to watch, but ultimately not a very good sequel. The story is too cliche and the jokes too bland for that.

A lot more entertaining than the first part, but not as good as Smurfs: The Lost Village (2017), which is more faithful to the original TV series (which is not a sequel to this one, but a standalone 100% animated film, without human actors). The two new characters introduced in this second installment are an asset and keep the film fun and entertaining. 3*

A dragon of a movie.

The first one didn't make any sense either, but apparently this movie has done quite well, so it's no surprise that a similar sequel came out. And apparently also a third part, at least that won't be for soon.

I don't even like the Smurfs that much, but this edit is really on a very sad level. The Smurfs themselves are insufferable, the acting is extremely childish and the humor is unbearable. Paris as a setting really makes no sense at all.

I usually have nothing against modernization, but I found these Smurfs especially infantile. It may be intended for younger viewers, but in my opinion they deserve better than this crap. Very annoying movies.

0.5*
