The Glass Key plot
"He carries his love in his iron fists!"
Ed Beaumont is Paul Madvig's personal friend, advisor and bodyguard. Madvig, who has left his corrupt past behind in the local elections, is still the most influential politician in a major city. Taylor Henry, the son of Madvig's political opponent Senator John T. Henry, is mysteriously murdered. To prevent his re-election, Madvig's enemies try to accuse him of this crime. Madvig has made enemies in the criminal environment because he has refused to support them any longer since the election. Beaumont then risks his life and reputation by looking for the real killer.
