Klara Häberle is a wild, naughty and beautiful girl from Oberrieslingen. She is madly in love with Peter Rosbauer from the neighboring hostile village of Unterrieslingen. Peter is a young, dynamic pig farmer with ambitions within factory farming and in turn is in love with Klara. Both would like to marry each other, but that is simply impossible. Vineyard owner Gottfried Häberle, Klara's father, and Elisabeth Rossbauer, Peter's pig farmer and mother, are absolutely against it. Since the Middle Ages, the Swabian villages of Unterrieslingen and Oberrieslingen have been terribly divided, although they share the church and cemetery together. The church is located in Oberrieslingen and the cemetery is located in Unterrieslingen. And that's where grandma Anni, Häberle's mother from Oberrieslingen, is buried. The funeral procession leads through the vineyards, to the border of the two villages...
