Unless I'm seriously losing sight of one, but Jérémie Renier must be about the most international and most experienced foreign actor in Belgium? Schoenaerts will of course pass that in the long run. Not that you will see Renier in Hollywood films, but in the arthouse world you regularly encounter him in foreign productions. I think he plays a weak role here, but it is certainly not easy to compete against the also highly rated Ricardo Darin.

This is not a well-known film. The last message dates back 10 years. But certainly not a bad movie. A film about life in a favela, a slum, in some Argentinian city. As a priest he has a lot of influence on the neighborhood and he enjoys great respect. This is also necessary to get the 'Elefante Blanco' hospital project on track and, above all, to keep it going.

The big problem - and the film's trump card in keeping everything entertaining - is the very fragile balance that has to be sought in the neighborhood. The many participants (politicians, builders, workers, priests, social organizations, residents, drug cartels, police, etc.) all have their own agenda, which keeps neutrality and loyalty suppressed.

It is always about putting out fires and dealing with all the sensitivities of the neighborhood. Action and reaction, cause and effect. It's nerve-wracking, mentally and physically. Interesting. Solid work, but certainly not wow. I could live with it.

About two priests and a social worker who do charity work in Ciudad Oculta, a slum in Buenos Aires, and continue the life's work of a murdered activist. An exhausting assignment, with unpaid construction workers who boycott the further execution of a housing project for the poor, with omnipresent drug violence and, in addition, raids by the police.

Father Julian keeps quiet in all languages that he has a brain tumor and prepares his disciple Nicolas for the succession. The latter gets into a relationship with the social worker.
Especially these last complications gave me the feeling that the director bit off more than he could chew. He would have been better off limiting himself to the goings-on within the slum.

Despite the presence of top actors Darin and Dardenne favorite Rénier, the film leaves a rather messy impression and it passed me by too indifferently.
