It's been a while since I've given this movie five stars, but this one deserves all five.

What an incredible tour de force from both Arestrup and Dequenne, the latter proving, after Rosetta, a film she almost single-handedly elevates, what an incredible actress she is. The camera is close to the characters, but while that bothered me quite a bit recently with Le Fils, for example, it seemed perfectly suited here. The film's locations are relatively limited, which also contributes greatly to the oppressive feeling Delfosse tries to create and makes you almost feel the freedom Murielle feels in Morocco, finally escaped from that depraved house where she is so utterly suffocated by her husband and resident doctor (whether the latter has good intentions or not, I'll leave open).

The music is also spot on, with fitting classical pieces here and there without being overdone. But above all, the perfectly chosen "Femmes je vous aime" by Julien Clerc—goosebumps, the rising hairs on the back of my neck, and chills—were all present in the scene where this song appears.

I also find the beginning of the film exceptional, as it gives away quite a bit of information.

Kudos to Lafosse, Arestrup and Dequenne.

Absolutely one of the very best ever made in Belgium.

It's remarkable to reread things I'd apparently written a few years ago. The title sounded familiar, but I didn't remember seeing this film before. But what I find even more remarkable is that I saw things in the film back then that I hadn't noticed at all now. About a car that stayed the same and people who didn't age. And I hadn't noticed the unique camerawork at all now. This time, I was particularly disappointed that the very first scene gave away how the film would end. And now I was disappointed that I'd been anticipating that the whole time. Unlike my previous viewing, the ending didn't come as a surprise to me this time. I did find it disappointing that the story developed very little and that it was all a bit more detached than you might expect from a sad film like this. I missed too many truly emotional scenes. But I did think it was a better film this time than the last time. Three stars, compared to two the previous time.

I just read here that it was actually a true episode, but that's exactly what went through my mind while watching the film: the depiction of a psychological case behind such a "newspaper article".

The direction and cast are certainly fine, but it is somewhat limited in terms of cinematography and story.
