Patrick Rima is a narrow-minded man with strict principles. He was once a brilliant student in the Antilles, and his mother sent him to France at the age of ten to continue his studies. Thirty years later, he is a renowned, proud historian. Alienated from his family, he is integrated into a new society in which he has forgotten his roots. He is black on the outside, but white on the inside. When he learns that his mother will soon die, he decides to visit her. He ends up with his daughter in Martinique, where a grand carnival has been set up.
