Papirosen plot
On October 23, 2000, immediately after the birth of his nephew Mateo, Solnicki starts filming his relatives. Mateo is the first grandchild of Gastón's father Victor, a sweet, generous, but also quite dominant paterfamilias. The strong bond between grandfather and grandson is the common thread in this documentary, which depicts four generations of Solnickis, all burdened - and sometimes imprisoned - by the past. Grandmother Pola and grandfather Janek, born in Poland, lost much of their family in Hitler's concentration camps. After the war they ended up via Prague in Argentina, where the family was doing well economically. For ten years, the director continues to follow his parents and his sister's family falling apart, despite regular protests.
