After Thom is rejected by a photo studio, his landlord throws all his belongings out of his apartment. With no chance of a job and living space, he turns to his last resort: driving illegal taxi rides through the streets of New York. Lucky for him, Claire Barrow isn't having a good day either. She first discovers that her husband is cheating on his new secretary and then her estranged father in California has had a heart attack. In a fit of bewilderment, she walks out into the street at night and hails a taxi... Thom's taxi.
