The Law and the Lady plot
Housekeeper Jane Hoskins is falsely accused of stealing jewelry from her employer Lady Sybil Minden. When Inspector McGraw questions her, Minden's brother-in-law Nigel Duxbury confesses that he is the culprit. He needed the money as a payment, because he recently lost his inheritance. As an expression of regret, he gives Jane £200 and takes her out to a fancy dinner. He is impressed by her when she has a decent make-up and shows decent manners. He asks her to become his business partner in Monte Carlo. There she poses as a lady and makes rich men lose their money to Nigel.
