5 Broken Cameras plot

The Palestinian farm worker Emad has five video cameras. Each of these cameras tells part of the story of his village's resistance to Israel's oppression. Emad lives in Bil'in, a village a few kilometers from the occupied West Bank. With the first camera, he captured how in 2005 the bulldozers came to pull olive trees from the ground where, across the land of his fellow villagers, the wall was built that was to separate the advancing Jewish settlements from the Palestinians. In those early days of resistance against the Jewish settlers and the ubiquitous Israeli soldiers, his fourth son Gibreel is born. Images of the newborn, who grows into a precocious toddler, the many peaceful protests and the steadily progressing construction of the separation wall alternate. The resistance is growing, helping people from all over the world (including people from Israel), but the fighting is getting fiercer, people are being arrested and there are fatalities in the village. Emad continues to film despite the pleas of his wife who fears reprisals, creating a very personal and poignant document about a village's struggle against violence and oppression.
